Entry # 3: What qualities would you like to have as a Greek god or goddess?
Many powers exist in Greek gods such as ability to throw lightning bolts to people like Zeus, or Super Strength like Hercules. Even if those powers seem really interesting, in the future, they will be filled with boredom since you get them. Why would it feel bored? Think for a moment, you are using the same power to do something, wouldn’t it feel bored? From there, I found out something, a something that will not be filled with boredom, a power to make new world. It would say the god of creation, and there is no such god as god of creation. Since being god of creation means creating more and more world, it would not be boring. Creation means new things, and new things are not filled with boredom as super strength or throwing lightning. As a result, I would choose to be a god of creation just because it has more interesting sources to use.

Entry # 2: Greek Monsters
You saw a Cyclopes in the movie ‘Hercules’ right? Cyclopes is a Greek creature with complicated stories. Cyclopes is one eyed immense creatures that used to come out in the Greek stories a lot. There are two generations on the Cyclopes. There are three Cyclopes who later on created Zeus’s thunderbolt, Hades’ helmet, and Poseidon’s trident. Since their father, Uranus hated his sons including the Cyclops, so he imprisoned the three Cyclopes. Later on, the Cyclopes were freed by Cronus, but again, imprisoned, fearing the power of Cyclopes. Finally, the three Cyclopes get their freedom with Zeus’s help, and they find their works in the Olympus as smiths. The second generation is mostly on the Cyclopes which had terrorized humans and got defeated by humans. These Cyclopes had no history with humans, but it just says, in Greek history, that Cyclopes had been killing and destroying humans with their might. For example, in the movie, ‘Hercules,’ a Cyclopes comes out, but Hercules defeat the immense and mighty Cyclopes with all his strength.

Entry # 1
Hades, the Lord of the Death, is a God, whom I have chosen for entry 1. The reason why I chose Hades for my entry is that Hades is only God who looks pathetic to me. Hades is one of the three sons of Cronus, and he chose to rule over the underworld instead of sea and sky where Poseidon and Zeus are ruling now. According to cite that has Hades’ information on, Hades seems to be greedy as he is in the movie ‘Hercules.’ Comparing to Hercules, Hades is really different from Hercules, but they both have one thing congruent in common. Both Hercules and Hades are aimless at the beginning of the movie, but Hercules found his way by himself. On the other hand, Hades, who has no purpose on his living, doesn’t realize what his purpose is even at the end. Maybe expanding his subjects would seem to be a goal for him, but others see it different. In my case, Hades’ goal is just an ambition that is unreasonable because what would Hades do after expanding his subjects? There are more things behind a person’s objective. For example, Hercules, even if he becomes a hero, he needs to defend the city from these monsters.

The Sixth or The Last Entry
What is the mood of this novel? What happens? Do you find this novel saddens you in any way? Why?
When it was the beginning of the novel, all the animals were in despair under humans’ control, and they were planning on creation of rebellion. Then they finally rebelled and forced Jones and his men out of the farm. They were in bliss with succeeding to be independent. This joyful mood kept through till the Jones and his men came to get the farm back. All the animals were in anxiety, but Napoleon and Snowball led the animals to triumph. Again, they were in a great joy. Even though Snowball was forced out of the farm by Napoleon, most animals were scared to care about it because of Napoleon’s dogs. As the novel continues, mood of the novel falls from joy to despair eventually. There are a few reasons why mood falls, Boxer sold, lack of foods, and more works on farm. Then finally pigs somewhat look like humans at the end saying four legs are good but two legs are better, and most animals are dazzled. As it gets to the end I found myself sadden by these animals. Leaders change as the novel goes on, and all the animals follow the leaders. One reason that saddens me is animals’ weakness. In Animal Farm, strong characters always led and conquered the farm, and all the animals always followed that leader with no disagreement on their part. Also, there have been no alterations in animal farm since the animals created rebellion excluding the situation where pigs whip the animals.

The Fifth Entry
What is the climax of this novel? What happens? How do the events of this novel make you feel?
Climax of a story is where the solutions for the conclusion come out. What I ponder on the climax from the novel is the situation where Napoleon vanish Snowball out of the Animal Farm with the help of his loyal dogs. Because Napoleon wanted to be the leader of Animal farm, Snowball was getting in the way to him with Snowball’s cleverness. This happens to be the climax because Snowball affects the future of Animal Farm a lot. If Snowball was to be the leader, there wouldn’t be any dumb situation where pigs get along with the humans. Also, there wouldn’t be any labors on animals. It was Snowball who mentioned that four legs are good but two legs are evil, but Napoleon altered that statement into four legs are good but two legs are better. All the events in the novel, ‘Animal Farm,’ remind me of all the occurrences there once ware in Russia. Still, this novel contains more than recollections of the history in Russia, it also shows the feeling of every single character which is equal to feeling of people involved in this history of Russian. I just wrote few comments on the events of the novel. I should say I feel really hilarious concerning to this story because all the animals’ rebellion had forgotten with no transformation in the animal farm, and the funniest part is where pigs got along with the humans because somewhat pigs were equal to humans obviously.
Since my entry for climax is about no change in the Ani mal farm, I found a poem which has the theme of no change.
It Will Not Change
By Sarah Teasdale
It will not change now
After so many years;
Life has not broken it
With parting or tears;
Death will not alter it,
It will live onIn all my songs for you
When I am gone.

The Fourth Entry
Please choose one passage from the novel that is significant to you. Why is this passage meaningful? Please type it into one of your entries and comment on what you think about the passage.
BEAST OF ENGLAND, BEASTS OF IRELAND
BEASTS OF EVERY LAND AND CLIME,
HEARKEN TO MY JOYFUL TIDINGS
OF THE GOLDEN FUTURE TIME.
SOON OR LATE THE DAY IS COMING,
TYRANT MAN SHALL BE O’RTHROWN,
AND THE FRUITFUL FIELDS OF ENGLAND
SHALL BE TROD BY BEASTS ALONE.
RINGS SHALL VANISH FROM OUR NOSES,
AND THE HARNESS FROM OUR BACK,
BIT AND SPUR SHALL RUST FOREVER,
CRUEL WHIPS NO MORE SHALL CRACK.
RICHES MORE THAN MIND CAN PICTURE,
WHEAT AND BARLEY, OATS AND HAY,
CLOVER, BEANS, AND MANGEL-WURZELS
SHALL BE OURS UPON THAT DAY
BRIGHT WILL SHINE THE FIELDS OF ENGLAND,
PURER SHALL ITS WATERS BE,
SWEETER YET SHALL BLOW ITS BREEZES
ON THE DAY THAT SETS US FREE.
FOR THAT DAY WE ALL MUST LABOUR,
THOUGH WE DIE BEFORE IT BREAK;
COWS AND HORSES, GEESE AND TURKEYS,
ALL MUST TOIL FOR FREEDOM’s SAKE.
BEASTS OF ENGLAND, BEASTS OF IRELAND,
BEASTS OF EVERY LAND AND CLIME,
HEARKEN WELL AND SPREAD MY TIDINGS
OF THE GOLDEN FUTURE TIME.

The Third Entry
Who are the main characters of the novel? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the universal human experience?
In the ‘Animal Farm’, the main characters are animals mostly. They are Jones, the owner of the farm, Napoleon, the brave pig, Snowball, the genius pig, and all the other animals in Animal Farm. In the world, there are two kinds of people. People who controls with the brain like governors and others who uses their body like soldiers. In the book pigs are supposed to be governors, and all the other animals seem like soldiers. From them, I like pigs which use their brains to solve the problems, especially Snowball who is the cleverest pig in the farm. Pigs give reasons for actions and all the other animals don’t understand, and just follow what pigs ask them to do which means pig’s are the boss of the Animal Farm. If pigs were not smart enough, then the animals would be immobile, couldn’t think of what to do next. If we are to compare Animal Farm with a plant, all the animals except for pigs are the body parts of the plant, and pigs are the roots of the plant which hold the plant still. What I am trying to say is pigs try to hold the animal farm constant and stable with their cleverness. I also appreciate Napoleon’s way of solving his problem. Even if he uses dirty tricks, such as training the dogs to be on his side, that is the way us humans, should live like. There were many people who were willing to get their own freedom like these animals in the ‘Animal Farm.’ These animals got their own freedom by fighting against the humans, and succeeded gaining it. Then they created their own country with idealism of communism as North Korea did. These animals created schools, worked hard, and did every job that we, humans do.
I found a poem that supports Napoleon's idea.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox - Communism
When my blood flows calm as a purling river,
When my heart is asleep and my brain has sway,
It is then that I vow we must part for ever,
That I will forget you, and put you away
Out of my life, as a dream is banished
Out of the mind when the dreamer awakes;
That I know it will be when the spell has vanished,
Better for both of our sakes.
When the court of the mind is ruled by Reason,
I know it wiser for us to part;
But Love is a spy who is plotting treason,
In league with that warm, red rebel, the Heart.
They whisper to me that the King is cruel,
That his reign is wicked, his law a sin,
And every word they utter is fuel
To the flame that smoulders within.
And on nights like this, when my blood runs riot
With the fever of youth and its mad desires,
When my brain in vain bids my heart be quiet,
When my breast seems the centre of lava-fires,
Oh, then is when most I miss you,
And I swear by the stars and my soul and say
That I will have you, and hold you, and kiss you,
Though the whole world stands in the way.
And like Communists, as mad, as disloyal,
My fierce emotions roam out of their lair;
They hate King Reason for being royal –
They would fire his castle, and burn him there.
O Love! They would clasp you, and crush you and kill you,
In the insurrection of uncontrol.
This poem clearly supports Napoleon's idea because he tried to alter Animal Farm into Communism.

The Second Entry
Are there any current situations in the world that relate to the novel? What are they, and how do they relate? Does the novel shed any light on how current situations could be resolved or “fixed”?
Since Korea achieved to get its own independence from Japanese, two types of groups were segregated. One group was willing for democracy, and another group for communism. This fight continued forever. Then these two groups turned into two countries which are now called North and South Korea. From these two countries, North Korea is related to the novel. In Animal Farm, Boxer, who worked really hard, gets nothing but fame, and then he gets sold by the horse slaughter. In North Korea, even if one person works harder than another, he/she gets the same reward as other people does as it is in Animal Farm. The similarity for Animal Farm and North Korea is that they have the same type of Ideology. At the end of the novel showed that communism can’t last for very long time. Right now, North Korea is having harsh time with lack of money, technology, and even basic necessities. What I am trying to say is North Korea will eventually unite with South Korea because it’s impossible for North Korea to live with lack of every source.

The First Entry
What is the major theme of this novel? Why is this theme important to a teenager living in 2007?
In this novel, all the animals fervently wanted freedom. Nevertheless only 3 to 4 animals were brave enough to put some change into the farm others while were too scared to fight with humans. The major theme of this novel is ‘nothing changes if you are not enthusiastic to do it’. Since they got their own freedom, the animals worked all together, and shared all together, a leader leading the way. That leader, Napoleon guided the animals even though it was not a appropriate way, but still, he altered and developed the farm with his braveness. Today, most of the teenagers are scared to change their setting. For example, in school, most teenagers will deny on being student representative with the reason that they will get blamed, abused, or embarrassed. Still, there are some students who are really gallant to be the student representative, and these people are those who bring changes like Napoleon or Snowball did in the ‘Animal Farm.’
I found a poem matched to this entry.
O Captain! My Captain!
By Walt Whitman
O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up--for you the flag is flung--for you the bugle trills; 10
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths--for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won; 20
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
This poem is mostly about Abraham Lincoln who led slaves to be freed, but assasinated. In my entry, I mentioned about the leaders, and I posted this poem up because this is a great example of leader.
