BEAST OF ENGLAND, BEASTS OF IRELAND
BEASTS OF EVERY LAND AND CLIME,
HEARKEN TO MY JOYFUL TIDINGS
OF THE GOLDEN FUTURE TIME.
SOON OR LATE THE DAY IS COMING,
TYRANT MAN SHALL BE O’RTHROWN,
AND THE FRUITFUL FIELDS OF ENGLAND
SHALL BE TROD BY BEASTS ALONE.
RINGS SHALL VANISH FROM OUR NOSES,
AND THE HARNESS FROM OUR BACK,
BIT AND SPUR SHALL RUST FOREVER,
CRUEL WHIPS NO MORE SHALL CRACK.
RICHES MORE THAN MIND CAN PICTURE,
WHEAT AND BARLEY, OATS AND HAY,
CLOVER, BEANS, AND MANGEL-WURZELS
SHALL BE OURS UPON THAT DAY
BRIGHT WILL SHINE THE FIELDS OF ENGLAND,
PURER SHALL ITS WATERS BE,
SWEETER YET SHALL BLOW ITS BREEZES
ON THE DAY THAT SETS US FREE.
FOR THAT DAY WE ALL MUST LABOUR,
THOUGH WE DIE BEFORE IT BREAK;
COWS AND HORSES, GEESE AND TURKEYS,
ALL MUST TOIL FOR FREEDOM’s SAKE.
BEASTS OF ENGLAND, BEASTS OF IRELAND,
BEASTS OF EVERY LAND AND CLIME,
HEARKEN WELL AND SPREAD MY TIDINGS
OF THE GOLDEN FUTURE TIME.

As I read this passage through, I realized that this is a utopia that all the animals in the animal farm want in the future. Every single word in this song has meaning on what the animals’ situation was and what the ancestors eager to achieve. At first, the song mentions about Ireland. Ireland is a country under European’s control, as animals are under humans’ control. The animals are foretelling that they will be freed from humans. All the stanzas till 5th stanza is on animals’ prediction of their future plan after getting freedom. Then in 6th stanza, it means that all the animals should tolerate and persevere before they achieve to get their freedom. The problem is the song doesn’t contain how the animals will secure after they succeed getting freedom. In the novel, animals sing this song when they got their freedom from humans, but the song is forgotten after their independence. At that point where they forget about the song, they have also ignored the purpose their ancestor eager to achieve eventually. Now, they have problem with lack of food, so they ignore the memory when they were freed from humans, some saying they had better conditions of living when humans controlled them. The most significant part is that nothing changed since they created rebellion, so this song becomes unreasonable when the novel reaches to the ending.
Since all the animals have forgotten the meaning of this song, I found a poem mostly about forgetting.
Forgotten Memory
By Violetta Lanflagle
It reminds me of something
A memory I can't quite grasp.
A time when I was happy?
Is it a memory of somebody?
I circle around it
Like a hungry vulture.
I can't remember
And it's driving me insane
A memory i can't quite grasp.
It reminds me of something...
